Wild Sanctuaries: Madagascar — Two hundred million years ago, Madagascar became separated from the mainland of Africa. An island of lush rainforests and exotic creatures, Madagascar is home for hundreds of unique species such as chameleons, lemurs and turtle doves. SBS, Tuesday, June 13, 8pm.

Lord of the East — When the czars founded their new city on the edge of the Pacific, they named it Vladivostok — "Lord of the East". During the Cold War it flourished, but now it is run by a ruthless mafia; the Soviet Pacific fleet rusts at its moorings; nuclear waste floats in the ocean; forests are being felled; and the Siberian tiger is being slaughtered. Spies in the Sky — For the first time, details of secret US and British spy flights over the Soviet Union in the 1950s, years before Gary Powers' CIA U2 was shot down. ABC TV, Tuesday, June 13, 11pm.

Mojo Working: Muddy Waters — An episode of a 13-part series that looks at the careers and legacies of some of popular music's most influential artists. This program focuses on the legendary Chicago blues performer, Muddy Waters. ABC TV, Sunday, June 18, 1.30pm.

David Suzuki's the Nature of Things: The Invaders — "Killer Bees" are only one of many species of plants and animals introduced into an environment different from the one in which they evolved. A new concern about these species has arisen in connection with biotechnology, as scientists create new life forms. SBS, Monday, June 19, 7.30pm.

Movie: Xime (1994) — Life in a Guinea-Bissau village in the last days of Portuguese rule. SBS, Monday, June 19, 9.30pm.

The Wild West — This episode of the documentary series on the history of US expansion westward deals with the bloody impact of white invasion on Native Americans and their resistance. ABC TV, Monday, June 19, 11pm.

Ordinary People — During a sitting of South Africa's first democratic parliament, a woman ANC MP rises to make her first speech. This film follows the MP, a veteran journalist, and two "coloured" parliamentary workers as they carry out their duties in the new parliament. SBS, Thursday, June 22, 8pm.
