The Simpsons — At last! Channel Ten has finally decided to begin screening a new series of The Simpsons. The old episodes have been re-run so often that Simpsons fans must know the scripts off by heart. Despite being 'toons, the antics of Bart, Marge, Homer, Lisa, Maggie and Santa's Little Helper are probably the most accurate TV portrayal of the reality of family life in the late 20th century. Channel Ten, every Wednesday, 7.30pm.

Survival '95 — Highlights of the Aboriginal Survival Day concert which took place on Invasion Day in Sydney. Turn up the TV loud! SBS, Sunday, January 29, 3.30pm (3pm in Adelaide).

Catholics and Sex — An extraordinarily frank four-part documentary exploring the Catholic Church and its attitudes to sex. Ordinary Catholics and clergy express opinions sharply at odds with the church hierarchy on sex outside marriage, contraception, homosexuality and dancing naked in the moonlight. SBS, Monday, January 30, 12.20am.

JFK, Hoffa and the Mob — A gripping account of organised crime's links with the CIA and charges that the mob orchestrated the assassination of JFK and the murder of the Teamsters Union's corrupt head honcho, Jimmy Hoffa. SBS, Monday, January 30, 7.30pm.

Damned in the USA — A doco that examines the controversial photography of Robert Mapplethorpe. The program tackles head on the raging debate over "art" and "pornography". SBS, Monday, January 30, 11.05pm.

The Assassination of Martin Luther King — MLK was assassinated in April 1968, at a time when the civil rights movement was at its height and links were increasing between the black rights movement and radicalising sections of US youth. Many believe that the assassination was ordered by powerful forces in the US establishment. ABC TV, Tuesday, January 31, 8pm.

Mediterraneo — Winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1992, this Italian film is about eight Italian World War II soldiers stranded on an idyllic Greek island. While Il Duce's away, the boys will play! SBS, Thursday, February 2, 9.30pm.

Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald — Sixty minutes of unique footage of performances and interviews with the jazz legend, spanning the years 1957 to 1985. SBS, Friday, February 3, 8.30pm.

Thriller #1: Z — Costa Gavras' classic political thriller. A popular leader (Yves Montand) of a pacifist opposition party in a thinly disguised Mediterranean country is murdered. A fearless investigator uncovers a murky conspiracy involving the highest levels of government, police and big business. SBS, Friday, February 3, 9.30pm.

Thriller #2: La Crime — A prominent attorney is gunned down. It becomes apparent that the crime involves an elaborate cover-up and a web of duplicity at the highest levels of society. From France. SBS, Friday, February 3, midnight.
