De Gaulle and France — Charles de Gaulle was the most important bourgeois political figure in France during the past 50 years. Hollywoodism: Jews, Movies and the American Dream — Hollywood creates the image of the United States that is accepted by the rest of the world. This program claims the image was born, not in the USA, but in the Jewish villages of Hungary, Poland and Russia. The founders of the Paramount, Universal, Warner Brothers and MGM studios, all East European immigrants or their offspring, used moving pictures to reinvent the US as the place where the "little guy" could make it to the top. SBS, Sunday, November 29, 9.30pm.

Fast Trip, Long Drop — Six years ago, Greg Bordowitz tested HIV positive and has since developed AIDS. In his unflinchingly honest film — part autobiographical home movie and part fanciful collage — he explores his gay and Jewish identities and angrily spoofs the hushed, sanctimonious way people with AIDS are treated by television interviewers. Anything You Can Do — People with disabilities sometimes participate in dangerous and extreme sports, and often face over-protective, patronising attitudes and suspicion about their motivation. On the other hand, those who succeed are often coopted by the mainstream press as "heart-warming super-crips". In this program, a selection of people talk about the attitudes they have encountered. SBS, Thursday, December 3, 1.10pm.

Women in China — Hanan in central China is a poor area where many women have been abandoned by husbands seeking economic opportunities further south. Yantai, by contrast, is a "new economic zone" where women workers produce silk underwear and elegant gowns which are exported all over the world. SBS, Thursday, December 3, 8pm.

The Big Picture: Mutiny (1914-18) — By the start of 1917, the strain of war was showing on the front line and at home. Half the French army mutinied and Russia rose in revolution. ABC-TV, Thursday, December 3, 9.30pm.
