Unionists Against Corporate Tyranny has launched a new web site which, according to site editor Melanie Sjoberg, will help broaden the campaign against corporate-led globalisation.
"The site has only been up for a week", said Sjoberg of its September 23 launch, "and already we've been contacted by several unionists who want to add their names to the list of signatories on our statement against corporate tyranny".
Along with the statement, the web site has information on UACT solidarity campaigns, including model motions which activists can move at union and community meetings. One motion condemns the Victorian Labor government's endorsement of the police violence at the S11 protests.
Sjoberg said that international workers solidarity is a major focus of UACT and the site. There is a call for messages of solidarity to be sent to Pakistan, where unionists are holding a "Return to Democracy" conference on October 12, and there are background articles on the activities of the radical trade union, the Indonesian National Front for Workers Struggle (FNPBI). UACT is raising funds to support FNPBI organisers.
The FNPBI, in conjunction with UACT and Action in Solidarity with Indonesia and East Timor, is hosting a May Day solidarity tour to Indonesia in 2001. Information about the tour can be found on the site.
Sjoberg added that news items on local and international workers' campaigns will also be a feature.
