Resistance joined around 400 people during university Orientation Weeks on February 21 to 25.
Stalls were held at Adelaide University, Griffith University, Queensland University of Technology (Gardens Point campus), the Australian National University, Northern Territory University, University of Tasmania, Southern Cross University (Lismore), University of Melbourne, La Trobe University, University of WA, University of Sydney, University of Technology (Sydney), University of NSW, University of Western Sydney (Bankstown) and the University of Wollongong.
Resistance national coordinator Kerryn Williams said, "Students were very interested in joining a socialist organisation and getting involved in specific campaigns. Women's rights, cuts to education and racism were all issues of concern. Mandatory sentencing and the issue of refugee rights sparked a lot of interest.
"Many people who joined had heard of Resistance before, from the high school walkouts against Pauline Hanson that we organised in 1998, or from our involvement in the long-running campaign for freedom for East Timor."
Resistance clubs will be organising numerous events in the coming weeks, and supporting many different campaigning activities. See pages 24-25 for details.
