BY DALE MILLS
On the M1 demonstration in Sydney on May 1 2002 a number of concerns were expressed about the police. Individuals who have complaints should date and sign a written statement detailing the nature of their complaint. Please be as detailed as possible, noting places and times.
If you have received injuries, please consider seeing your doctor so as to obtain a precise diagnosis of any injuries sustained and photograph any visible injuries. You may register a complaint directly with the NSW Ombudsman office by writing to the ombudsman at Level 24, 580 George Street, Sydney, NSW 2000.
However, the Legal Observers Project is submitting a number of complaints on behalf of individuals. If you wish, you can also make the complaint through the project so that your name and address are not passed on to the ombudsman. Please let us know when you write if you wish to complain anonymously.
Additionally, we are keen to hear from any individuals or organisations who wish to make comments about the demonstration even where no formal complaint is being made.
If you wish to complain through us, please also give us your written permission for us to deal with the complaint on your behalf.
You can write to us at: The Legal Observers Project,
Community Law and Legal Research Centre, University of Technology, Sydney,
PO Box 123, Broadway, Sydney 2007.
