NEW YORK CITY — More than 250,000 people marched through the streets of New York City on March 22. The demonstration was so big that as the first contingents arrived at the rallying point, people were still leaving the start point 38 blocks away. Donning costumes and carrying peace signs, anti-imperialist and socialist banners and religious icons, the demonstrators streamed toward Washington Square Park. Banners and placards included “Thou shall not kill”, “Ground Zero kids against the war”, “No empire, no war” and “Hands off Iraq”. According to early reports, more than 500,000 people marched in London and up to 250,000 mobilised in Montreal. Photo by Louis Proyect <http://www.marxmail.org>.
