GI means General Indignation
"At first glance they appear to be the archetypal Band Of Brothers of Hollywood myth, brave and honest men united in common purpose. But a closer look at these American GIs, sweltering in the heat of an unwelcoming Iraq, reveals the glazed eyes and limp expressions of those who have witnessed a war they do not understand and have begun to resent." London Evening Standard, June 19.
Resentful
"It makes you resentful they're holding us on here. It pisses everyone off, we were told once the war was over we'd leave when our replacements get here. Well, our replacements got here and we're still here." US Army Corporal Michael Richards, quoted in the London Evening Standard.
Angry
"We're more angry at the generals who are making these decisions and who never hit the ground, and who don't get shot at or have to look at the bloody bodies and the burnt-out bodies, and the dead babies and all that kinda stuff." US GI Anthony Castillo, also quoted in the London Evening Standard.
In serious need of psychiatric treatment
"God told me to strike at al Qaeda and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did." Emperor George Bush II, quoted in the Israeli daily Haaretz, June 25.
Priorities
"I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them." Emperor Bush, quoted in Haaretz, June 25.
The imperial gardener
"This is our part of the world; this is our patch." Prime Menzies John Howard, quoted in the June 28 Sydney Morning Herald, justifying his decision to send 200 combat troops to the Solomon Islands.
