WOLLONGONG — PM John Howard was met by 200 Shoalhaven protesters on April 24 demanding that his government abandon its anti-worker laws. Arthur Rorris, South Coast Labour Council secretary, told the protesters: "It's appalling to think that Howard came to Nowra to celebrate 10 years in power but could not spare five minutes to hear the stories of two local families suffering under the new workplace laws."
Relating one of the stories, Rorris said: "The Lucas family, like many others in Shoalhaven, have seen their child leave the region to gain work, given the high unemployment of the area. As it happened, the job in Sydney resulted in dismissal for 'operational reasons' two days after the Work Choices law came into effect."
