Two years of Workers Radio

In August 2005 Workers Radio Sydney emerged on to the Sydney breakfast radio scene. In the two years since the first broadcast, the show's producer and presenter, Craig Bulley, has established a dedicated and growing audience who tune in between 6am and 9am weekday mornings for a hearty breakfast of music and politics. The show has become a listener's hub for unionists, activists and community campaigners, as well as the many concerned Australian workers and their families who rely on the show for information about the attacks on their rights and conditions under the Howard government and its Work Choices regime.

What began as a show dedicated to workers' rights and conditions and as an opposing voice to the Howard government's attacks, has grown to cover many national and international struggles, providing a broader vision of the erosion of our democratic freedoms and civil liberties. The show supports the anti-war movement, offers environmental education and provides a daily voice to a number of marginalised sections of the community ignored or demonised by the mainstream media.

The show provides information for working people, such as nurses, teachers, miners, builders, cleaners, lawyers, young people entering the work force and retired union members. A Workers Radio Sydney website has been developed and continues to expand its online archives and galleries. Visit the site at http://www.workersradiosydney.com.

Annual funding for Workers Radio Sydney is comprised entirely of contributions from over 20 trade unions, three local councils (Ashfield, Marrickville and Leichhardt) and other community organisations. Sponsorship and donations can be arranged through Tim from the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union on (02) 9749 0405. Listeners are encouraged to contribute to the show by phoning in on (02) 9550 9552 with information about their own workplace or community actions, or they can contact Craig on 0431 392 160, email the show at workersradiosydney@hotmail.com or include their own events and campaigns on the website with its interactive activist calendar.
