"People before profits" was the message coming from the "rally for rights" organised by the Socialist Alliance in Newtown on November 9. The rally was addressed by Catholic priest Peter Maher, Your Rights At Work campaigner Michael Haines, three representatives from Community Action Against Homophobia (CAAH) and Greens candidate for Grayndler, Saeed Kahn.

Socialist Alliance candidate Pip Hinman, who also addressed the rally, told Green Left Weekly that the Socialist Alliance is campaigning for an end to the reactionary Howard government. However, "Labor and Liberal both should be apologising to the people for the miserable policies they are putting forward at the election" and that people should "vote for progressive parties like the Socialist Alliance" as well as getting involved in grassroots campaigns such as the Stop the War Coalition, CAAH and the Your Rights At Work campaign.

Human rights activist Raul Bassi launched his campaign as the Socialist Alliance candidate for the seat of Blaxland under the banner "Rise up south west" on November 10. Speakers included Mamdouh Habib, Esselte union delegate David Rojas and Palestinian activist Rihab Charida.
