Green Left Weekly is highly valued by its many international readers.
Every week, Farooq Tariq and his comrades in the Labour Party Pakistan "eagerly await" the arrival of this particular newspaper from far-off Australia. Pakistan is now a "hot-spot" in the US-led war against Afghanistan.
"The international coverage of Green Left Weekly is tremendous", Farooq said. "It brings a real picture of what is happening, with special attention to the success stories of working-class revolutions and other efforts to bring us a socialist future. Thank you GLW for this internationalist service.
"We appeal to all those who are in a position to help the financial campaign of GLW to do so. It is an investment, not only in a paper of the Australian working class but also for the socialist movement internationally."
In Canada, a country that, like Australia, has troops in Afghanistan, Roger Annis also looks forward to receiving his copy in the post.
"I have received the print edition of GLW for several years now because its coverage of international events, including the national liberation struggles that are reshaping the world, is indispensable. I also learn and take great encouragement from the reports of activists in Australia that appear in its pages."
In New Zealand, Mike Treen, the national director of the militant Unite union, also values GLW.
"GLW performs a vital role for the international left and labour movement. As a regular NZ reader, its news and analysis is vital for following fast moving world events. For me, its role in linking fighters around the world, with a non-sectarian openness to the actual fighters rather than attachment to dogmas (new or old), is even
more important. I wish you well and encourage everyone who wants a new world to contribute."
Finally, Grant Morgan, the international secretary of Socialist Worker New Zealand, summed up this appeal for our Spring Offensive:
"Quite simply, GLW is one of world socialism's best weekly papers. It combines solid analysis with lively agitation and out-and-proud internationalism. Turning out such a fine paper costs a hell of a lot, and not just in money terms. GLW's editorial staff and regular writers shape the finished product with their knowledge, skills and dedication.
"While most of us can't do much in this area, we can make a huge contribution by putting our hands in our pockets and giving generously to keep GLW afloat in a hostile capitalist marketplace. And by asking people around us to subscribe and donate."
So far this year, we've raised $178,812 for our fighting fund. That leaves only $71,188 to reach our $250,000 target for the year. Please reach for your wallet or cheque book now and help us get there!
