Ninety-one percent of Australians think the government should take more action to roll out renewable energy and create green jobs and 86% say the government should develop a plan to get to 100% renewables.
These were some of the outcomes of one of Australia’s biggest ever polls on climate change and climate policy, which was released by the 100% Renewable Energy Campaign on June 14.
Eight hundred volunteers from 72 climate action and community groups conducted the poll across the country. Fourteen thousand people were asked their views on renewable energy, carbon pricing and the responsibility of the government to act on climate change.
Fourteen percent of those surveyed said the federal government was doing enough to support wind and solar power. But 77% percent said the government had to do much more.
Just 3% of those polled said the government should not invest in green jobs and renewables and only 5% opposed a plan to move Australia to 100% renewable energy.
Seventy-five percent of those surveyed agreed Australia should “put a price on pollution so that businesses are made responsible for their pollution” — 8% said they disagreed while 17% were uncommitted.
