Cuba solidarity activists, members of Australia’s Latin American community and leftists from around the country will take part in a two-day conference in Sydney to pay homage to Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro.
Video messages of support for Fidel from renowned leftist personalities will be screened alongside a full agenda of talks focused on Castro’s ideas, thoughts and legacy for the 21st century.
Confirmed speakers for the conference include filmmaker David Bradbury, University of Sydney professor Tim Anderson, Charles Sturt University academic Oliver Villar, Cuban ambassador Pedro Monzon, Venezuelan ambassador Nelson Davila, Bolivian consul Antonio Moron and Cuba’s Socialist Renewal blog editor Marce Cameron.
Communist Party of Australia national secretary Hannah Middleton, Socialist Alliance national executive member Rachel Evans and Communist League representative Linda Harris will also speak.
The conference will take place over August 18-19 at the NSW Teachers Federation building, 23-33 Mary St, Surry Hills.
It is organised by the Latin America Social Forum, Australia-Cuba Friendship Society, Committee in Solidarity with Cuba (Western Suburbs) and the Free the Cuba Five Committee, with the support of the Cuban embassy in Australia and the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples.
