Sylvia Pankhurst.

From militant suffragette at the beginning of the 20th century to campaigner against colonialism in Africa after World War II, British Sylvia Pankhurst dedicated her life to fighting oppression and injustice.

In a talk for The National Archive podcost in Britain, Katherine Connelly examines Pankhurst’s role at the forefront of significant developments in the history of radical politics. Connelly looks at Pankhurst’s activism – from her teens as a member of the Independent Labour Party and her time as a leading suffragette before the First World War, to her revolutionary socialist, anti-fascist and anti-imperialist campaigning in later years. Connelly is the author of Sylvia Pankhurst: Suffragette, Socialist and Scourge of Empire.
