After 12 days on strike, workers at Laverton Cold Storage voted on July 6 for their first union workplace agreement.
Emma Kerin from the National Union of Workers told Green Left Weekly that the striking workers had voted unanimously to return to work after endorsing a new EBA that includes significant gains for the workers.
The agreement includes an 18% increase in base pay over three years; moving from fortnightly to weekly pay cycles; a new bonus system covered by EBA disputes procedures; all labour hire casuals who took action to be rehired; and conversion of workers from labour hire casual to company casual after three months and then to permanent full time after six months.
