Free speech theme on 2SER
SYDNEY — Freedom of speech and expression will be the theme of public radio 2SER FM's week-long membership drive and radiothon October 1-7. The radiothon, an annual event celebrating the birthday of the station, will include a concert and give-aways on air.
Most of the station's regular programs will look at the issue of free speech. Topics will include the defamation business, media coverage of the Gulf War and issues in censorship and free speech in public radio itself.
The station, broadcasting on 107.3 mHz for 12 years now, is not supported by government or advertising. The financial support of its listeners is crucial to the station's ability to continue.
"Our membership drive is extremely important", said 2SER development manager Steve Cassidy. "This year both individuals and organisations will be encouraged to join, not only for the specific benefits membership gives but also in order to show their support for the diminishing number of independent voices on the airwaves."
