As the year draws to a close, our modest, but hardworking, staff are getting ready to take a break until the first issue next year. However, news and analysis will be published on our website over the holiday season.
This year has been a difficult one for many people, especially with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Green Left was forced to suspend print publication for a while, but soon found a way to resume production safely.
We could not have done this without the support of you, our readers.
We received many donations to help us through a year when we have not been able to carry out our usual round of fundraising events.
One particularly generous anonymous donation of $100,000 has to be given special acknowledgement. Whoever you are, thank you very much.
Next year, we will still be under pressure from the pandemic. Apart from fundraising, it is much harder to organise the face-to-face public campaigning that usually brings us new readers and supporters.
So we are making a special appeal to you to help sign up new Green Left supporters over the break.
Please ask your friends, family and workmates if they will help this important project stay alive. As you know it costs as little as $5 a month to be a supporter.
There is a strong argument to become a Green Left supporter: over the summer, we will once again be facing the threat of bushfires and those silent killers, heatwaves.
This will be a reminder of the catastrophe we face without a strong ecosocialist response to the climate emergency. Leaving it to “the market” to make the needed emergency changes in the shrinking time we have left is simply reckless.
In the face of the climate emergency, inaction has consequences. By becoming a supporter you become part of the solution rather than part of the problem.
Next year, we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Green Left. We are asking supporters to make short video or written messages of solidarity, with #greenleft30, and send them to editor@greenleft.org.au to mark the occasion.
