Refugee activists attended a vigil on December 19 for young Malaysian student Mohammad, who died in Villawood Immigration Detention Centre a week earlier. The action was initiated by We Are Better Than This.

Mohammad had been picked up in Adelaide and found to have overstayed his visa. He was locked up for seven months by Australian Border Force. He fell into despair at the ongoing delays sending him back home.

Speakers included Jamal Daoud and Ian Rintoul. The Refugee Action Coalition, People Just Like Us and Refugee Lives Matter supported the action.
