Members of the Kurdish community in Australia and their supporters held an emergency protest on March 17 in Sydney Town Hall Square to join the global protests over serious concerns about the wellbeing of imprisoned Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
This round of protests came after posts had been spread on social media talking about the possible death of Öcalan. The previous evening, at a special Newroz event in NSW Parliament, the call was made for Öcalan to be allowed to meet with his family and lawyers immediately.
