Demonstrations were held in Sydney and Melbourne on April 24 to protest the Turkish military offensive against Kurds in South Kurdistan/Northern Iraq.

Illegal chemical weapons have been used, civilian populations have been attacked and displaced from their villages in a major military offensive that began earlier in the month.

“We urge the Australian government to take the same stance and measures as it did with the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Gule Rose from the Democratic Kurdish Community Centre (NSW) told the Sydney rally.

“We urge our friends and the people of Australia not to be silent about the Turkish invasion and destruction of Kurdistan.”

A global day of action is being organised on April 30 to oppose this invasion.
