Workplace delegates with the Retail and Fast Food Workers Union (RAFFWU) gathered in Sydney from November 4–6 for their first conference.
Jake, a RAFFWU delegate, told Green Left: “It was fantastic to meet delegates from around the country and hear their stories of organising their work places”.
He said delegates shared experiences dealing with management hostility, difficult experiences with the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association and solidarity with and for other workers.
Organisers from the United Workers’ Union told the RAFFWU conference about their successful campaign for wage rises for farm workers at Coolinbah Herbs.
United States’ union organiser and author Jane McAlevey discussed strategies and tactics in union building and workplace organising.
“Our 2022 National Delegates Conference wrapped up following three days of education, activation, skill sharing, inspiration and organising for power,” RAFFWU said.
“We are all inspired in our action and can’t wait to build the workplaces, sector, community and society we deserve.”
Jake said the conference “left everybody feeling inspired and energised, and with a tremendous sense of solidarity”.
