The Kurdish community held an emergency rally on November 20 outside the State Library of Victoria in solidarity with the people of Rojava, in northern Syria, who are under attack from Turkey.

The protesters chanted, “Stop genocide in Kurdistan” and “the Turkish state is a terrorist state”.

In the early hours of November 20, Turkish warplanes began bombing hospitals, schools and other civilian targets in and around Kobanê. Local communities fear that a ground invasion may be imminent.

Representatives read a statement condemning Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regime’s brutal attack on the Kurds of Rojava and on the Kurdish regions of Turkey.

Solidarity greetings were given on behalf of Green Left and Socialist Alliance.
