“No subs, no war, no US bases on our shore” rang through the city's streets on August 6 as protesters commemorated the 78th anniversary of the United States' nuclear assault on the city of Hiroshima and three days later Nagasaki.
There was strong opposition to the AUKUS military pact and the Labor government's plan to spend more than $368 billion on nuclear submarines. The rally was organised by the No AUKUS Queensland coalition, which is also planning a rally outside the Labor national conference on August 18.
