Why

Join us from 6.00pm, for a special Q&A screening with director/co-producer David Noakes and Rose Murray, a family member of Strikers and interim Chair of Remembering the 1946 Pilbara Strike committee including guests from the Pilbara as they present this award-winning digitally restored and remastered 1987 documentary feature How The West Was Lost following the 6.30pm session.

The film tells the story of the 1946 Pilbara Aboriginal Pastoral Workers Strike and as the strikers in the film say, they never went back! They survived through alluvial mining, hunting and eventually purchasing and running cattle stations. This strike proceeded the Wave Hill walkout by 20 years yet is still rarely mentioned. Told through interviews and re-enactments by the strikers and their families it's a timely re-release when the question of the Voice is before Australians.

Completed in 1987 the film screened as part of the Festival of Perth and was nominated for four categories in the AFI Awards that year, as well as winning the Human Rights award in 1987. The film screened around Australia and at a number of international festivals, eventually being sold to Channel 4 and ABC.
