Hundreds of health workers from Liverpool Hospital and the surrounding district held a snap protest on October 18 against the Israeli bombing of the al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, in which at least 500 (mostly displaced) people were killed.

It was one of 20 hospitals in the north of the Gaza Strip which had been given evacuation orders by the Israeli Defense Forces.

Several nurses and doctors addressed the protest, and a Palestinian-Australian doctor from the hospital read a moving letter urging the Australian Medical Association to speak out.

The World Health Organization said on October 17 that since October 7 there have been over 115 attacks on healthcare facilities across the Occupied Palestinian Territory, of which 51 were in the Gaza Strip, killing 15 healthcare workers and injuring 27.
