The opposition to the AUKUS deal grows

While Prime Minister Anthony Albanese talks up the AUKUS deal, opposition is growing among unionists and retired defence officials. Pip Hinman reports.

The Defence Strategic Review doesn’t contain any surprises, argues Sam Wainwright. It abandons any pretence that military expenditure has anything to do with defence, conceding that it’s all about helping the United States project its military power into Asia.

Labor’s review of Australia’s defence capability is likely to continue the same big spending on offensive weapons and make the Asia-Pacific an increasingly dangerous place, argues William Briggs.
