On 20th October a group of students from the Unviersity of Wollongong peacefully occupied the office of the Defence Material Technology Centre (DMTC) on campus. This centre is involved in designing materials used in weapons of war, such as the Joint Strike Fighter and the Bushmaster armed personel carriers used in Afghanistan war of occupation.
Concurrently, students wished to draw attention to the uni's recent controversial decision to axe the successful music program at UOW - "Bassoons not bombs". We wished to protest the neo-liberal and unethical direction that the University has taken with the promotion of military research and the axing of the music program.
