Campaigning for a 'new politics' in Malaysia's state elections

August 11, 2023
Issue

In the lead up to the August 12 state elections in Malaysia, the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) and the Malaysian United Democracy Alliance (MUDA) have been campaigning for a "new politics" in Malaysia, one that breaks from the old politics of racial and religious sectarian fear and hate. They also support egalitarian and democratic reforms and urgent action on climate change.

While MUDA, which has described its politics as "centre-left", concedes that its political platform may not be as developed as that of the PSM, as their candidates campaigned for the election they found many issues they agreed on.
