Bahrain: New attack on home of human rights activist

The home of Nabeel Rajab, president of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights (BCHR) was attacked on May 21, CNN.com said that day. It was the second attack on Rajab's house in a month.

The BCHR said the attack occurred in the early hours of the morning while Rajab and his family were sleeping. It said the attackers launched teargas grenades into the house, breaking the window of Rajab's brother, the group said.

CNN.com reported that Rajeb said: “We had very frightening moments rescuing my brother, his wife and his daughter as they were close to serious suffocation. This is an attempt to murder a member of my family to pressure me to stop my human rights activities.”

In April, attackers lobbed teargas over a high wall surrounding his and his mother's houses, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said.

HRW said only Bahrain's security forces would have access to the kind of grenades used in the April attack, CNN.com reported.

CNN.com said that on March 20, Rajab was taken from his home to the interior ministry's investigative department. Rajab said he was blindfolded and beaten during his interrogation.
