SYDNEY — Dr Helen Caldicott and Dr Jim Green condemned the federal government's pro-nuclear push — which includes giving the go ahead to a new nuclear reactor at Lucas Heights in Sydney's southern suburbs, new uranium mines at Jabiluka in the Northern Territory and Beverley in South Australia, and an international nuclear waste dump in Western or South Australia — at a public meeting sponsored by Green Left Weekly on March 25.

The meeting also heard from Green about the secrecy surrounding a series of serious nuclear accidents at Lucas Heights. He said that Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation had failed to alert local schools, the council or the NSW health department.
