Lucumi, the Rumbero of Cuba — Lucumi is a 10-year-old drummer. His dream is to become a great rumbero. Once a year, a group of musicians get together to play rumba to celebrate the life of Chano Pozo, a brilliant Cuban drummer murdered in the US. This is the year when the rumba is led by Lucumi, who sings, plays, dances and talks his way through this film. SBS, Friday, July 5, 9pm.

Tales from Oceania — Visit the Indonesian island of Sumba, the Stone Country of Arnhem Land, Fiji and Vanuatu. SBS, Sunday, July 6, 7pm.

Lousy Little Sixpence — In 1909, the misnamed NSW Aborigines Protection Board decided to break up Aboriginal communities by forcibly removing children and "hiring them out" to white masters. Aborigines who lived through this period vividly recall their memories. By the late 1930s, Aborigines had had enough, and a series of strikes, rebellions and political action led to the board's abolition. ABC-TV, Tuesday, July 8, 8.30pm.

The New Age of Labour — Throughout the world, the labour market is changing drastically. This program examines job security in the 1990s . SBS, Tuesday, July 8, 8.30pm.

The Coolbaroo Club — From 1946 to 1960, the Coolbaroo Club was a meeting place and community focus for Perth's Aboriginal community. The club was the only Aboriginal-run dance club in a city where apartheid was practised. The Coolbaroo League, organised by club members, ran a newspaper and became an effective political organisation. ABC-TV, Wednesday, July 9, 8.30pm.

Inside Out — A series that looks behind the crimes of prisoners to see how social and family circumstances led to their incarceration and at the prisoner as a human being, not a criminal. SBS, Friday, July 11, 8pm.

Street Sisters — Sex workers in Belem, Brazil, speak about their work in the gold mining areas of Amazonia, child prostitution and their need to organise a trade union. Their words give an extraordinarily powerful insight into social injustices prevalent in Brazil. SBS, Tuesday, July 15, 8pm.

Forbidden Marriages in the Holy Land — This documentary looks at the subject of marriages between Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs. The aim of the film, according to the director, is to "show the urgent need for a civil code of marriage that liberates the individual from all religious constraints and gives her/him freedom to choose". SBS, Wednesday, July 16, 10.55pm.

Silence de Lesbos — The history of lesbianism is chronicled in this French-made documentary. It not only documents the repression of lesbians but also discusses key figures in the lesbian movement and some of the debates within it. SBS, Thursday, July 17, 8.30pm.
