However, the new mood did not go down well and horrific massacres took place in the bush. Frontier is television's first comprehensive account of the 150-year war against the Aboriginal people. Black River — A film adaptation of an operatic work based on the 1987 Human Rights Commission of Inquiry into the conditions suffered by Aborigines at Toomelah, on the border of Queensland and NSW. SBS, Monday March 17, 12.30pm.

You Might as Well Live — A study of youth suicide in Australia which is structured as an inquest examining case studies of youth who have suicided through interviews with parents, siblings and friends, and also through interviews with young people who have made failed suicide attempts. SBS, Monday March 17, 1.30pm.

Frontier: 1860-1938 The Government Should Shut its Eyes ... — In Queensland, the bloodiest phase of the lost war kills thousands over 30 years. The Europeans decide they must regulate what they believe will be a dying race. But Aborigines live and fight on. ABC TV, Wednesday March 19, 8.30pm.

Timeframe: ASIO — The first of a two-part special on Australia's spies. Part 1 takes a fresh look at the frenzied spy hunt that led to both the formation of ASIO and the notorious "Petrov affair" in 1954. ABC TV, Thursday, March 20, 8.30pm.
