Trotsky's Assassin — The first of a two-part documentary on the life of Ramon Mercader, whose Spanish-born relatives and comrades, relocated by the KGB to Moscow, reveal some interesting facts about the man who was destined to assassinate Leon Trotsky, founder of the Red Army and a central leader of the Bolshevik Revolution. Much of the film concerns a vivid description of Mercader's life in a Mexican prison, his stay in Russia afterwards and his practically unnoticed death in Cuba. SBS, Friday, August 21, 8pm (part two on Friday, August 28, 8pm).

Tibetans: Restless in Exile — In this special report from the Indian Himalayas, Dateline secures unique access to the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan exile community. It reveals that there is mounting frustration with the Dalai Lama's "middle way" — his patient, non-violent approach. In Dharamsala, the seat of the Tibetan parliament in exile, a younger generation is demanding more direct action to win the right to self-determination. SBS, Saturday, August 22, 7.30pm.
