Movie: A Summons for Mr Joshi (India, 1984) — Mohan Joshi decides to take the landlord of his block of units to court to fight for the rights of the other tenants, but confronts a corrupt justice system. SBS, Sunday, March 22, 12.30pm.

Algeria: Years of Hope, Years of Despair — Opens with the decline of Boumedienne from 1975 to 1979, and spans the years to the declaration of a state of emergency in January 1992, and the violence that has followed. SBS, Sunday, March 22, midnight.

The Uprising of 1934 — A multi-award-winning documentary, using archival footage and personal recollections, about the US general textile strike of 1934 which was brutally suppressed by the mill owners. SBS, Monday, March 23, 11pm.

When the State Kills — A history of capital punishment, and the changing official and public attitude to it around the world. ABC-TV, Tuesday, March 24, 11.10pm.

Geoffrey Robertson's Trials of Oz — A dramatisation of the celebrated London trial for obscenity of the publishers of Oz magazine. The trial was widely seen as a cultural collision which put the '60s generation in the dock. Geoffrey Robertson was the Oz publishers' defence counsel. ABC-TV, Wednesday, March 25, 11.15pm.

Nuclear Nomads: The Bikini Islanders — In 1946, the US military asked 165 inhabitants of Bikini Island in the South Pacific to leave their home to permit nuclear testing and the sinking of 23 battleships in their waters. With the soil of the island poisoned, the islanders have still not been able to return. The now 2000 Bikinians have been living on Kili Island. With a compensation trust fund, received in the late 1970s, they want to clean up Bikini Island and return. SBS, Thursday, March 26, 7.30pm.

Born Under the Red Flag — First of a two-part documentary on China's transformation after the 1949 revolution. ABC-TV, Thursday, March 26, 9.30pm.
