Cairns protest against resort development

On February 24, 200 people rallied at the Esplanade Lagoon despite tropical rain to oppose a proposed resort and housing complex at False Cape on the coast south of the city. Until now, this side of Trinity Bay has provided Cairns with a natural setting visible from its centre.

The rally protested Cairns City Council's decision to allow the development to bypass planning guidelines, ignore safety concerns and proceed with an approved access road.

Representatives of the Cairns and Far North Environment Centre and the Cape Crusaders, as well as a member of the Yarrabah Indigenous community, addressed the protesters.
