This weekend hundreds of Green Left supporters will be wining and dining for the future of the progressive press in Australia.
Three Green Left Weekly annual dinners will be held on Saturday, September 28, to raise funds to keep the best independent newspaper on the streets and in your letterbox. These dinners will continue the steady climb towards the Green Left Weekly fund appeal target of $120,000 — of which nearly $80,000 has been raised so far this year.
The Green Left dinners come hot on the heels of last month's successful jumble sale in Sydney, which raised around $2000 (thanks to all those who donated their pre-loved goods to this worthy cause), and the very enjoyable dinner hosted by Newcastle supporters.
With a "Dare to Struggle" theme, diners in Sydney will be treated to a North African feast, during an evening of politics and entertainment.
Perth and Fremantle supporters of Green Left Weekly will come together around the theme "Building a Fighting Media", highlighting the role that the independent left press plays in mobilising forces against the neo-liberal offensive.
Nico Warouw, the international representative of the People's Democratic Party in Indonesia, is the special guest speaker for the Green Left Weekly dinner to be held in Adelaide.
Always a lot of fun, these dinners are one of the most important fundraising events for Green Left each year. They provide an ideal opportunity for readers to show their support for the paper with the news and views that every activist needs. Venue details and starting times for all three events are listed in the Meetings ... Parties ... Anything section of this issue (pages 29-31).
Have a great night out for Green Left Weekly — it's your paper.
