NEWCASTLE — A bunch of local and national musicians are banding together to put on a huge fundraising event at the Civic Theatre on June 29 for War Child, an organisation that raises awareness of the struggle for survival facing children in war zones.

While the US-led invasion of Iraq and its dreadful toll maybe yesterday's news in the corporate media, for those directly affected the struggle for daily survival continues.

Hosted by Tony Squires, from ABC TV's The Fat, the War Child concert will present a refreshing blend of contemporary and traditional music, ballet dancers, orchestra rock, folk music and electronica.

Artists donating their talents include Stellar 3, the Think Folk Duo, Mousemoon, Ionic, Kelly Stoner, Francine Bell, the Guitar Company, the Lavender Hour and many others.

The concerts kicks of at 7pm. Tickets are $15, $12 concession and $8 for children under 12. They are available at the door or from the Salar Couch Caf‚, Beaumont Street. Phone 4927 5329 for more details or go to <http://salariumcouchbar.live.com.au/warchild.htm>.
