BRISBANE — Cynthia Merchant, an activist with the Queensland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, kicked off the discussion at a Socialist Alliance meeting on the slaughter in Gaza on January 22.
Resistance member, Andrew Rice, also addressed the gathering. He emphasised how the revolutionary governments of Venezuela and Cuba had been proactive in their support for the besieged Palestinians.
The main focus of the discussion was where the solidarity campaign could go to now. The Alliance has been very active in Gaza solidarity actions in Queensland and is keen to continue its engagement by trying to foster a campaign to boycott and isolate Israel.
Other aspects of the meeting dealt with the upcoming climate and Indigenous convergences in Canberra and the soon to be called state election.
For the state election, the meeting decided to run candidates in at least two seats and has called for nominations to be decided upon at its next Brisbane gathering in two weeks time.
