Green fridge

The Australian Conservation Foundation has launched a quest for an energy-efficient, ozone benign, commercial/domestic refrigerator for use in Australia and developing countries.

The ACF's newsletter reports that the quest will involve tertiary students of science, industrial design and engineering in designing practical, environmentally friendly solutions.

Refrigerators currently contain ozone-destroying chemicals, CFCs. Electricity used to power fridges is also of concern: electricity production is a major producer of CO2, which contributes to global warming.

The ACF is currently seeking student/inventor participation and sponsorship in the form of funding, endorsement and technical expertise. For more information, contact Carrie Sonneborne in Canberra on (06) 247 2472 or Dallas Kinnear in Melbourne on (03) 416 1455.
