Green, left and international

Green Left Weekly is very proud to be involved in the Asia Pacific Solidarity Conference to be held in Sydney on the Easter weekend, April 10-13. The conference will bring together 66 international guests from many parts of the world.

From its first issue seven years ago, Green Left Weekly has contained extensive coverage of the issues and politics of our region.

We certainly haven't ignored the rest of the world, with regular reports on developments in Central and Latin America, Europe, north Asia, the Middle East and Africa, but our nearest neighbours have been a special focus.

We have paid particular attention to the central role of Australian governments (through arms trade, military training and business aid) in the repression of the people of this region — including Bougainville, East Timor, Indonesia, Burma, the Philippines, West Papua and many more.

In addition to talks and workshops on these countries, the Easter conference agenda includes discussion of the political situation and campaigns in the wider pacific region, north-east Asia and south Asia. Activists from the USA, Canada, the Netherlands, Nicaragua and Russia will also be attending.

Many of the conference participants are involved in Indonesia or East Timor solidarity organisations. They find the articles in Green Left Weekly both informative and inspiring. With their input, Green Left Weekly has become invaluable for drawing the attention of people in Australia, and around the world, to the corruption and repression in so much of the region.

Help support the excellent role of Green Left Weekly by making a contribution to our Fighting Fund. Donations to that fund enable us to continue bringing regional politics to you and many, many others.

If you want to stay in touch with what's happening in our region, you can't afford not to read Green Left Weekly. You also can't afford to miss the Asia Pacific Solidarity Conference (see the ad on page 19 for more details).
