At the end of the fourth week of our Emergency Appeal, $55,452.15 has been raised to keep Green Left Weekly coming out, and we are overwhelmed with powerful messages of support from our readers. Here is one from a progressive Christian community in Adelaide inspired by the liberation theology movement:

"Dear all at Green Left,

"Many thanks for all you do in your work, to seek the truth, expose the lies, to educate and to give hope. We know it is a hard slog and it is because we are living in dark times.

"We have enclosed a cheque for $1,000 from our community for your appeal. We certainly don't want you to stop your much-needed paper. We need an alternative voice to the rubbish and lies that are fed to us. That is why we produce Adelaide Voices, a bi-monthly social justice paper. As we are more than full time in all our works, that is what we can manage. Our works are mainly in welfare and you can imagine the problems the poor, mentally ill, Aboriginal, etc suffer each day.

"So in solidarity we go forward knowing there are other like-minded people.

"With much gratitude from all the Romero Community."

Two more people, Merrilyn T and Ambrose A, joined the now 18-strong "$1000 Club" (people or groups making donations of $1000 or more).

This week we also received $500 from the Victorian printing division of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union.

"Green Left Weekly has demonstrated its unequivocal support for the trade union movement.

"As unionists, we believe in mutual support and if we are fair dinkum in that belief, then it follows that we should support those who support us. Green Left Weekly deserves that support from unionists. I urge unionists to donate to Green Left Weekly's emergency appeal for funds. <97> Jim Reid, AMWU printing division Victorian state secretary."

Chris Cain, the Western Australian secretary of the Maritime Union of Australia, has also endorsed the appeal:

"I endorse the Green Left Weekly Fighting Fund. I'll be making a donation and I ask other unionists to do the same. Support a paper that tells rank and file workers the truth.

"In solidarity and struggle, Chris Cain."
