Greens call for support

The Greens of Slovenia, an important part of the governing DEMOS coalition elected in April-May 1990, have appealed to all green organisations to call for recognition of the Slovenian republic.

The June 27 appeal, signed by party president Dusan Plut, parliamentary club president Bozidar Volje and executive committee member Peter Jamnikar, says the Yugoslav army's invasion of the republic violates the rules of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe.

"We ask you and your organisation to immediately inform the parliaments and governments of your countries about our situation and demand that the Yugoslav army troops must return to their military bases at once and so give an opportunity for a peaceful solution of the crisis.

"We ask also that you and your organisation propose to the governments of your states the recognition of the Republic of Slovenia as a sovereign state."
