Health Care Workers for Palestine organised a vigil in support of Palestine, in particular the people and medical staff of Gaza on December 8.

It was one of many such gatherings organised around the world by this group health care workers, an international collective of medical professionals who are calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

Dr Omar Abdel-Mannan, co-founder of Gaza Medic Voices, is driving the coalition driving this initiative.

Their social media platform publishes first-hand accounts from healthcare workers in Gaza. It is administered by an international team of medics, who have all visited Gaza and know the contributors personally.

Jen Martinez chaired the vigil, which heard from Hannah from Nurses and Midwives for Palestine, nurse Amna Saadi and NSW Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi.

Nurse lecturer and socialist Paula Sanchez sang a song in English and Spanish derived from Liberte, a poem by Paul Eluard, written in 1942 when France was under Nazi occupation. It was an ode to liberty.
