Illusions
By Afrodity Giannakis
Neon lights
selling lies
of excitement
and ultimate satisfaction.
Consumption
of synthetic food
flamboyant dresses
and the system's rotten relationships
artfully wrapped
in flashy screens
and the glamour of Cosmopolitan.
Feeding junk ideas for profit.
How will you feel
when you realise
that your illusions don't really serve you?
Who will you blame?
Chances are
you'll be too dazzled
by the all-powerful glitter
to see its creators behind it.
Chances are
you'll blame those
they have always meant you to blame.
Not themselves,
the ones who pull the strings.
But those on the other end,
where you are too.
