Lying Down Under a Bush

November 17, 1993
Issue

The attack on Iraq puts the devil on our back —
It was illegal; that implies
Even if it's successful
We all should be regretful,
No good is based on lies.
And now Bush seeks to tell us for whom we should vote,
Tho' himself unelected he's rocking our boat.
Strike a light! We just might take a left and find we're right
And not the US in disguise.

What's that smell? Is it hell? Those who have the nose can tell:
It is the stench of packs of lies.
As we head to election
We muse upon deception
And open wide our eyes.
We've had Tampa, detention and war on Iraq,
Leaders strangle dissent, and we're kept in the dark.
Strike a light! We just might take a left and find we're right
Along the road to getting wise.

Are we mute? Put the boot into all these great galoots
Who rule where greed and fear divide.
When they treat truth as feeble
They disregard the people;
They're in for a surprise.
We have leaders who tell us that they "didn't know."
If they had other jobs they'd be told where to go.
Strike a light! We just might take a left and find we're right
Along the
road to No More
road to No More
road ... to ... No ... More ... Lies.

[To the tune of "The Road to Gundagai". Revised lyrics Sister Susan Connelly.]
