Mutiny on air!
Sydney community radio 2SER-FM has launched a new radio program called Mutiny. Each week it will examine protest and rebellion, here and abroad. A team of program makers interested in an in-depth analysis of how change is achieved have come together to produce a thought-provoking hour of radio.
"We won't shy away from asking hard questions concerning the strategies, philosophies and usefulness of various movements for change. At the same time, we hope to become a vibrant forum for debate, with listeners being encouraged to take action on things they believe in", said Kyla Slaven, 2SER's Macquarie Talks Producer.
"Mutiny will be exploring ideas and events long before other media take them up, if at all. All too often movements for change or rebellions are reported when bloodshed looks likely, or after blood has been spilt", she said.
Mutiny's first program, on April 14, featured the 10th anniversary of the Solidarity Choir.
In future programs, light will be shed on the public relations industry and its campaigns against progressive groups. The attacks by the Nigerian dictatorship on playwright Wole Soyinka will also be a topic for discussion, as will his "subversive" literature.
Mutiny will also ask how the views of high school students can influence changes to the education system. It will question whether environment groups are wasting their time giving so much weight to media campaigns, and it will explore the legacy of the Fabian socialists on Australian political life.
Mutiny goes to air from noon to 1pm every Monday.
