SYDNEY— On May 1, 100 people gathered inside NSW Parliament House for a meeting to discuss the need for abortion law reform in New South Wales.

The meeting, called by the Greens, highlighted the fact that abortion is still a crime in NSW — as in many other states. Dr Leslie Cannold, from Pro Choice Victoria, pointed to the current legal case in Queensland, where a young woman and her partner face potential prison sentences for procuring an abortion.

Victorian Greens MLC Colleen Hartland, author and columnist Lisa Pryor, radio documentary-maker Eurydice Aroney, and ex-ACT MLC Wayne Berry also addressed the meeting.
