MELBOURNE — By September 30, 471 Socialist Alliance members had returned letters to the Victorian electoral commission confiming their membership. The commission must receive a further 29 positive responses by October 4 for the alliance to achieve registration as a political party in Victoria.

Socialist Alliance activists have been phoning and visiting Socialist Alliance members in order to guarantee that they have returned their forms. The process has been hindered by the fact that many alliance members have not even received the forms. Although all members were to be mailed questionnaires on September 13, some members received no form at all, while others received theirs after more than a week's delay.

The Victorian Socialist Alliance is confident of receiving the 500 returns it needs. Any members who have not yet returned their forms are asked to do so immediately. Any who did not receive forms should telephone 0403 802 944 and a fresh form can be mailed to them immediately.
