MELBOURNE — Community radio 3CR is Victoria's truly uncensored voice. Programs at 3CR give a public voice to progressive organisations and communities which are excluded or marginalised by the establishment media.
Four hundred volunteers produce 24 hours of progressive radio every week. Hundreds of community groups put their views on 3CR: indigenous people, women, environmentalists, community language groups, trade unions, lesbian and gay groups, alternative artists and musicians.
Readers of Green Left Weekly probably know about the Friday morning program produced by the newspaper's supporters in Melbourne, Radio Resistance. Many of the campaigns covered on this program are drawn from and contribute to the breadth of coverage in each issue of Green Left Weekly.
3CR produces many programs which are broadcast nationally. Women on the Line, Stick Together, the Radioactive Show, Accent of Women, Earth Matters, Second Opinion, Global Voices, Lost in Science and community radio's current affairs program Undercurrents cover issues of social justice from a progressive perspective.
3CR is politically independent; that means it depends on the financial support of its listeners and supporters. To help it stay alive and independent, 3CR is holding its 23rd annual radiothon this month. Beginning on June 7 and finishing June 20, this is an opportunity for people to support this valuable source of uncensored news and views.
To donate to 3CR during the radiothon, phone (03) 9419 8377. Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
